The No Good Crowd

You know those nights when everything feels right? The pints are flowing, the sounds from the stage wrap around you like a warm hug, and the music has that sly grin you can’t help but smile back at. Despite the absurdity of four dudes making indie rock now (as opposed to bedroom pop, chillwave, shoe gaze or whatever else passes for cool these days), from their very first shows as The No Good Crowd, a genre-blending fusion of garage, power pop, jingle-jangle, punk, and Americana began to crystallize.

Guitarists Jamie Olson and Jim McGuinn share a long-standing musical partnership that dates back to Philly’s semi-beloved Cordalene (2000-2005). After Cordalene's breakup, Jamie formed the rootsy Midnight Singers, teaming up with local legend Neil Simpkins on drums (Kenn Kweder and too many more to list), and later the Atlantic Coast Ramblers, featuring bassist Brendan Skwire (known for his driving work with punks Unkle F$cker and bluegrass-ers Jim and Jennie and the Pinetops). McGuinn took his talents to Minnesota for a decade with bands like Saint Small and BNLX before returning to Philadelphia to reunite with songwriting partner Olson in 2023, and together they all became The No Good Crowd.

Their two 45s released on Manic Pop Thrill Records put a gritty spin on classic power pop, fueled by raw garage energy - with the band joined by Adam Weiner (Low Cut Connie) and Emm Gryner guesting on piano and vocals. As they sing, “It’s All Right Now / Searching for the Flutter and Wow” — and yeah, it’s only rock and roll, but it’s the thing that brings us together.

Working on a full length album and playing shows around town, they are Inviting friends, neighbors countrymen and women to join this crowd - and one thing is certain: The No Good Crowd is very good, not no good at all.
